Funnybone Recordings is a Hartford, CT–based independent label focused on experimental and emerging artists. Service Studio collaborated with the label on art direction and visual development across album artwork, identity assets, and promotional materials, aligning the work with the label’s thematic focus on liminal space—a visual atmosphere defined by ambiguity, nostalgia, and the uncanny.

The visual language draws from postmodern collage, combining lo-fi analog textures with AI-generated StyleGAN imagery to produce hybrid promotional videos and motion pieces that feel both familiar and disorienting. This approach allows each release to inhabit its own aesthetic while contributing to a cohesive label identity.

Across projects, the work spans concept development, design direction, and final production, establishing a flexible visual system grounded in experimentation, mood, and emotional resonance. The result is a genre-fluid creative framework that elevates the label’s releases and reinforces its reputation for boundary-pushing artistry.
